Aromatherapy & Why We Incorporate It At Devine Beauty

Aromatherapy & Why We Incorporate It At Devine Beauty

The sense of smell is an underestimated sense with powerful healing abilities. It is an art of using the influence of scent to heal the body, mind, and spirit.

“The psychoactive effects of essential oils are recordable by electroencephalogram (EEG) measurements showing brain-wave responses expressed in brain-wave amplitude and frequency. Odors produce cortical brain-wave (EEG) activity responses involving alpha, beta, delta, and theta waves. “

What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy used in healing rituals for improving psychological and physical well being is not a new practice. Humans have always enjoyed the scent of flowers and herbs and have discovered the different effects of plant odors have on the mind and body. The ancient use of aromatic properties of herbs has been long observed and well known. The ancient Egyptians used a variety of incenses and oils for ritual practice that held deep spiritual meaning. They also used herbs for healing and health. Many cultures still use herbs in ritual and to honor the spirit of nature and the divine.

“We have learned that essential oils known for their antidepressant, sedative, or tranquilizing characteristics trigger the release of endorphins and enkephalins (neurochemical analgesics and tranquilizers) and, by other studies of odorant effects upon mood, how they may also influence other endogenous opiates within the brain. Essential oils also signal the activity of the hypothalamus and of hormones secreted by the endocrine, or ductless, glands, so called because they have no tubes, ducts, or openings carrying their hormone secretions away but instead release them directly into the bloodstream. These hormones act upon different parts and junction points in the brain and may also concentrate in special neural cell areas from which they may also be released.”

“Affinity is a variation of the natural law or principle of correspondences or similarity. Affinity enables essential oils to act directly upon the psychophysiologic features of human nature. Essential oils have biochemical, electromagnetic, and hormonal properties usefully similar and highly compatible to human nature and to human substances produced in the etheric and physical body: chemical to chemical, charge to charge, phytohormone to human hormone. This should hardly be surprising since our physical existence directly depends in various ways upon the plant kingdom. But essential oils have a contribution to make to our existence beyond basic survival. By its etheric substance, the essence of a plant, extracted in its essential oil, promotes memory. An essential oil’s fragrant nature, with its volatile or lingering fumes, not only acts as a superior limbic-hippocampal stimulant but is actually absorbed into the human etheric double, assisting the aggregate formation of engrams. By their highly desirable compatibility, essential oils can promote interest: the key factor in learning and memory processes. Interest is what triggers the forces of attraction/repulsion and establishes affinity, whereby like attracts like. The inhaled effect of essential oils upon memory is even more pronounced when the oils are applied topically.”

Each plant is said that it’s essence is it’s “soul” and each plant has it’s signature effects on us and the world around them. They want us to know them, smell them, experience them while learning from them. Plants are also living beings that have wisdom that is more powerful than we can conceive. Let your heart be your guide to understand them
